Microsoft forefront not updating
Microsoft is releasing this security advisory to inform customers that an update to the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine addresses a security vulnerability that was reported to Microsoft.
The vulnerability could allow denial of service if the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine scans a specially crafted file.
This in turn meant I was unable to install SCEP as its installer check to see that all previous have gone before it’ll install.
There is a very faffy way of fixing missing MSIs where you have to track down the correct version of the via the Microsoft Update Catalogue and/or a WSUS server, but it was too fiddly and I didn’t have time.
Client Management licenses cost about for Endpoint Protection and for Configuration Manager.
Visit the Microsoft Volume Licensing -- System Center 2016 webpage for more information.
In tests conducted on Windows 10 by AV-Test in November and December 2016, SCEP scored 15 out of 18 when evaluated for protection, performance and usability, which was one of the lowest scores of 12 tested systems. Thus, I wrote a script to manually uninstall the old FCS stuff (or at least, enough of it that SCEP will install and be happy). The script will continue on errors, and you will get errors as some of the stuff only relates to 32-bit OS, and some only to 64-bit.A fully functioning, 180-day free trial of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection is available from the Microsoft website.Check out the other antimalware protection products featured in this series: Kaspersky Endpoint Security, Mc Afee Endpoint Protection Suite, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Trend Micro Office Scan, Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security, Sophos Enduser Protection.
